Today, the City staff consists of 1 part-time and 9 full-time employees (not including the Building Inspector who is a 1/2 time contract employee) who serve a population of 9,405 residents in an area that spans almost 9 square miles.

OUR MISSION - We will serve in the best interest of the citizens of Edgewood by providing professional assistance to the public in a clear, concise and respectful manner and by being accountable for our work and the services and information we provide.  We will work together as one team to accomplish these goals through open communication, trust, honesty, a high standard of ethics and by striving for excellence every day.

Mark Bauer, City Manager
Overall City Management; Oversees Activities of Management Team, Works with the City Council to Accomplish their Goals; Uses Good Judgment to Assess Public and Private Issues; Develops and Maintains Solid Working Relationships With Local and Regional Agencies, State Legislators and Others.  (

Ed Knutson, Police Chief
Overall Management of the Edgewood Police Department; Develops and Maintains a Positive Working Relationship with Other Agencies; Assists the City in Preparing for an Emergency; Manages the Police Budget and Grants; Manages Security Issues at City Hall.  (The City Contracts with Pierce County for Police Services, therefore No Employees are Counted in this Department)

 

FINANCE / CITY CLERK
Debbie Zabell, Finance Director/City Clerk

Develops and Produces the City Budget and Annual Report; Provides Regular Financial Reports; Makes Presentations to the City Council; Manages Cash and Investments;  Develops Capital Improvement Plan. Serves as City Clerk, Prepares City Council Meeting Agendas and Minutes; Responsible for Records Management, Public Records Requests and Contracts.   (FT* Exempt Employee)


 

Amy Keeney, Accounting Tech
Manages Accounts Payable; Prepares Payroll, Banking; Performs Contract and Grant Reporting and Coordination; Manages Purchasing and Assists with Budgeting, Manages Public Works Files and Provides Support for all Public Works Projects, Prepares Contracts; Consultant/Contractor Liaison.   (FT* Non-Exempt Employee)

 

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Eric Phillips, AICP, Community Development Director
Manages Current and Long-Range Planning; Creates Economic Development Plans and Awareness; Provides Staff Support to the Planning Commission; Prepares Comprehensive Plan Updates; Performs Growth Management Coordination; Develops City Codes; Creates and Maintains Good Working Relationships with Members of the Community and in Local, State and other Organizations.  (FT* Exempt Employee)

 

Kevin Stender, Senior Planner
Provides Front Counter and Phone Customer Assistance, Manages and Processes Land Use Applications; Performs Environmental and Design Standard Reviews; Provides Staff Support to the Planning Commission; Manages GIS Data; Assists in the Development of City Codes.  (FT* Exempt Employee)

 

Dean Mundy, Building Inspector
Performs Building Plan Review; Conducts Building Inspections; Provides Front Counter and Phone Assistance to Customers
(The City of Edgewood has an Interlocal agreement with the City of Buckley to share their Building Inspector.  Through this arrangement, each city has a 1/2-time Building Inspector. This contract position is not counted as an employee of the City.)

 

PUBLIC WORKS
Joe Seet, P.E., Public Works Director
Manages Public Works Projects, Engineering, and Transportation; Develops Capital Improvement Plan and Transportation Improvement Plan; Develops City Codes; Provides Council Presentations

Rick Pederson, Public Works Roads Superintendent
Manages the Pierce County Public Works Contract and Directs Work Crew Activities; Assesses, Prioritizes and Addresses Road and Stormwater Maintenance Issues City wide; Serves as a Community Liaison Regarding Streets and Surface Water Matters.

Howard Bowers, Maintenance Technician
Performs Civic Center Grounds and Parks Facilities Maintenance, Minor Street Repair and Debris Clean-up; Address Storm Water, vegetation control and Site Distance Issues; Serves as the City's Handy Man .   (FT* Non-Exempt Employee)

 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF
Bonnie Valens, Administrative Services Manager
Responsible for Office Management, Human Resources,  IT, Risk Management, Volunteer Programs, Administrative Support to Council, City Manager and Staff; Internal/External Communications, to include City Newsletter and Website, Grant Writing, Special Events, Community Liaison; Staff Support to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. (FT* Exempt Employee)

 

Julie Bennett, Administrative Assistant
First Point of Contact, Permitting, Phones and Front Counter Assistance, Pet Licensing, Administrative Support to Staff; Organizes Building and Land Use Records; Coordinates Building Inspections and Citizen Action Requests.
