Edgewood Community Park Plans (PDF)

In 2005, the City purchased an 18-acre parcel of land on the northeast corner of 36th and Meridian from the Puyallup School District. An Ad-Hoc Committee was then formed, working with a consultant in the pre-development phase to gather citizen input through public meetings and workshops.

This process resulted in a conceptual design including several desired amenities:
  • Ample parking
  • A baseball field
  • Basketball court
  • Picnic areas
  • Restrooms
  • A small amphitheater
  • A soccer field
  • A tot lot and playground
  • Two tennis courts
  • Water feature "splash park"

Master Plan Acceptance & Funding

The City Council accepted the 36th and Meridian Park Master Plan (PDF) in 2007. A bond measure to fund construction of the park was placed on the August 19, 2008 ballot, but it did not pass.

30% Design Concept

After several years on hold, the City Council authorized further design work in 2015, and a "30% Design" Concept Sketch (PDF) for Phase One was developed to support an application for two Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) grants in June 2016. As shown in the RCO Grant Application Presentation (PDF), this design included a shelter, parking lot, play equipment and picnic facilities. This project was selected for the two RCO grants in late 2018, and as a result Council authorized a contract with the Berger Partnership to complete the Phase One Park Design.

Construction Coordination

Following several months of design effort and coordination with environmental consultants, applications for construction permits were submitted to City Staff for review on March 25, 2020. A State Environmental Police Act (SEPA) Environmental Decision (PDF) was issued June 16, 2020, the Design Review decision (PDF) was issued July 7, 2020, and construction bid solicitation was advertised July 24, 2020. Groundbreaking / Future Progress

While the project timeline has been somewhat impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain optimistic for a groundbreaking in late Summer / early Fall 2020!

Please stay tuned for more information as we move forward in the process!
